Brazilian hair straightening?

im thinking about getting my hair brazilian hair straightened but i kinda want reviews from someone whos actually got it done. i heard that this would be better than japenese straightening because japenese makes your hair like completely straight to your head but brazilian gives your hair a little volume. is this true? my hair is like a little past my shoulders, its pretty thin, and its really wavy. does anyone have any idea how much this might cost, how long it lasts and a good place to get it done? also are there any other straightening methods or whatever that would be better?Brazilian hair straightening?
Well I;m not sure about price or a good place, but I think Japanese may be better (from seeing several peoples' results)/ One of my friends with out-of-control-frizzy-thick hair gets the Japanese one. It makes her hair look amazing! It has body, it never gets frizzy, and it is so healthy looking. And all she uses is shampoo. No hair products! There are these 2 moms of my classmates and they got Brazilian done. The one hated it, because it lasted for, like, a week, and it looked gross. The other I couldn't tell because she hid it in a bun, maybe because it turned out bad, but I don't honestly know.

Maybe ask a hair stylist at a local salon?

Brazilian Hair Straightening..?

Can someone tell me a lot of Brazilian hair straightening? I know that its at least $250 and lasts about 3 months...is it worth it? Does it damage your hair a lot? Does it stay silky and smooth and non-frizzy?Brazilian Hair Straightening..?
never heard of it but its not worth it. you can spend that 250 on japanese straightening that last for at least half of year. and after u get it done u hair is still silky and smooth and no frizzy. is about 250 depends on the length of your hair. i think its worth of doing this. and of course it damage you hair. anything you do to your hair that unnatural is damaging your hairBrazilian Hair Straightening..?
Hello! I've been researching this all over the web. It is referred to as Brazilian straightening and Brazilian Keratin Treatment. It lasts from 3-4 months, and you can't wash your hair for 4 days after the process or use a shampoo with sodium choloride in it (ever!) or else it will revert. It is a much safer alternative than TR because it doesn't use any chemicals. It takes a liquid form of keratin, which is what your hair is made up of and repairs the damage done to your hair from other chemical processes. It also leaves it straight. You can have it done over a TR, coloring process, etc. and you can do these processes after it as well. Whereas, with a TR you have to use semi or demi permenant color and you risk a lot of damage if the person is inexperienced. The most famous brand of ';BKT'; right now is Marcia Teixtera who has a website with before and after photos, as well as any other questions about the product. Her website is braziliankeratin.com She also allows salon professionals to order the product, so if you want to try to talk your stylist into doing it for you, then refer her to that website. If you have any further questions about the process or simply want to hear testimony, I also frequent the lamasbeauty.com salon discussion board. Professional stylists answers questions on there about BKT and TR and have a lot of useful information. HTH!
They have japanese hair straightening... i've never heard of a brazilian hair straightening. someone got the japanese straightening and said it lasted her all year.
I've never heard of Brazillian Straightening...
it's $80 bucks here in florida for medium hair. my sister in law had it done, and her hair is gorgeous, swear, soooo shiny and silky, i really liked it.

i have really banana curl hair. my aunt is a hair dresser so i get things done for practically free. she offered to do the brazilian hair straightening treatment on my hair. when i went on the internet to do some pre-happening research, i found that it potentially dangerous? what are the chances of death from formaldehyde? preferably someone experienced in this treatment?

I've never heard of that before...anything can damage your hair/body.

Maybe don't do it if you feel scared? Ask your aunt about more info on that.

i've done it and the results are fantastic. (i have frizzy, damaged, unruly hair)

    it revived my hair completely.

its pretty expensive tho. if its really well done, its gonna cost you a little bit more but its worth it !!

it lasts about 5 - 6 months even more depending on your hair -- the more damaged and curly the better !!

i say do it if you straighten your hair EVERYDAY. its gonna be wayyy easier for you. trust me :) hope i helped !!

    * my aunt is a PROFESSIONAL hair dresser . she did it for me . i'd THINK she'd tell me if its possibly fatal .Brazilian Hair Straightening......?
Yes, it does damage your hair.

It's putting tons of heat and chemicals on your hair. Obviously that's damaging.

Ask your stylist about their opinion. You could get it, but you'd have to be careful about how often you straighten it yourself, and you'd definitely want to deep condition at least once a week.

    I hope I helped (:

Anyhoo.. I am a Hairstylist and we do it in our salon.. There have been many people who have done it and it works wonders.. It is so much better for the hair then regular straightening because it is so much more conditioned... If u do get it done Make sure u ask if they are certified and how many times they have done it..
I saw one of those brazilian keratin hair straightening things in Ulta and it said it didn't have formaldehyde in it. It's one of those at home kits. You could check it out it was about 70 dollars. It sounds really good but I don't know much about it.

    -Sarah Brazilian Hair Straightening?
You wont die....if people died because of this, it would be illegal.

I don't think you should do anything permanent to your hair. In the long run it will dry it out, burn it, and do serious damage to it. Then you'll have to wait until your hair grows out, then cut the rest off.

You might be one of those lucky ones that don't get it damaged, but that's unlikely.

Just use a good ceramic straightener, with any heat product before you straighten it. The heat product will prevent your hair from drying and getting split ends.

If you have very big curls, just work with it. There are lots of products out there that will maintain your curls looking beautiful.

Just be careful, it supposedly has formaldehyde in it, which is not illegal in cosmetic use here in the US, but can possibly make you sick. But I have seen some before and after shots, the stuff works good.
Just wanted to let you know that there is a newer version of Brazilian hair straightening where the hair can be washed immediately after treatment.

With the older version, you can't touch your hair for three days, let alone wash it. You can鈥檛 even put it behind your ear (ponytail=death). You also have to live with a foul smelling chemical in your hair for three days.

This new treatment is available in New York City at Shampoo Avenue B. It's a very cool salon in the lower east side of Manhattan. And the owner was trained (in Brazil) by the inventor of this product- so they know what they're doing.

Has anyone used the Brazilian hair straightening method?

I heard that it was the best type of hair straightening treatment. Much better than the Japanese hair straightening.

no, it won't kill you xD!

it's like a perm, but it's made of (mostly) keratin instead of a bunch of chemicals.

the brazilian treatment last only 3 monthes %26amp; a perm last for half the year. the brazilian treatment cost more too.

yeah, it works on black woman.

I don't get it, is it like a straightening perm? Perms don't take on EVERYONE. Go to your hairdressers and ask her for a professional opinion. Also, I don't understand how that could kill you?

Has anyone ever had Brazilian Hair straightening?

I have curly hair, its thick, but a little shorter than shoulder length. much like this http://www.virtualhaircare.com/images/HairExpo2005/Hairdresser/BarneyMartin/Med.jpg

I was told that I shouldnt do Japanese straightening because my hair is dyed blonde.

It this like a perm? which will permanently kill my curls? I dont want that.

How much does this typically cost?

Is it as much as Japanese straightening?Has anyone ever had Brazilian Hair straightening?
    OMG please read this answer!

i JUST got my hair brazilian straightened, and i have very thick slightly curly hair.

i got side bangs and i got it angled (i never thought i could get side bangs since my hair is so curly and thick i never thought it would look good, BUT NOW I CAN GET SIDE BANGS AND I DID! it looks great!!!!)

k, it costed me 400 dollars, but my hair is a little below my shoulders and its probably thicker than yours so since your hair is shorter it will probably cost you less.

it took about 4 hours, but again its because of the length and thickness of my hair.

DO NOT get japanese straighteneing! when it eventually starts to go away after a year, it grows out slowly, and it grows so that the top part of your head is back to normal whilst the perfectly straight part of ur hair is at the bottom. picture curly on top, straight on bottom. it looks horrible and i've seen girls in my school w/ that problem.

brazilian straightening costs less, takes less time, and it lasts about 3-4 months. it also DOESNT grow out like japanesse straightening. it just washes out in literally 3 days! not even kidding! i couldnt believe it until i saw other ppl who got it done and its true!

japanese straightening is much more expensive.

and NO it will not kill ur curls at all (i was a little bit worried about it too). yourr hair will be back to normal in 3-4months

it is nothing like a perm.

and u can get it even if your hair has gone other chemical dyes etc.

PLEASE get it done it is really worth the money and im so glad i got it done!Has anyone ever had Brazilian Hair straightening?
my sister did a french thing it didn't use any chemicals i think, and i know some people who did Brazilian ,, but I'm not sure about them,, when my sister did it it was really straight for about a week(like really really straight) now like 2 months later its just lightly curly. and it didn't ruin her hair.

now I have a question regarding brazilian hair straightening. I have soft but wavy hair and I want it straight all the time (I'm a mother so its really time consuming for me to flat iron ever day), but I heard that the japanese is a bit strong and that the brazilian hair straightening is less strong than the japanese one, but will I get the same results as the japanese one, I mean is it as simple as wash, dry and go with pin straight hair? please I need some help. thanksDoes the brazilian hair straightening leave your hair ';pin straight'; like the Japanese hair straightening?

Brazilian Hair Straightening... Pro's / Con's and Question.?

Hi! I have curly, frizzy, hair. I've been thinking about getting it done. I asked my mom about it, and she said after i get it done, the top of my hair (once it grows out, so about an inch) will look ridiculous and i'll have to get it done again. Is that true? Also, she said it doesn't work on all hair types. I have highlighted hair... (i don't know if that helps or not.. :P)

    So, just asking.

Also, what are some pros and cons?

    Thank You! :D

-AmyBrazilian Hair Straightening... Pro's / Con's and Question.?
    Hi.

I got coppola keratin done three months ago. It was pretty good when i first got it done. My hair was pin straight. ( this is because they run the straightener through the hair multiple times after they blow try the product into your hair.) It did cut the time of my blow drying time at first and has made my hair really soft but i feel as this product is coming of my hair i feel like its becoming frizzier than before i got it done. I have thick curly hair but it pretty soft in texture. It doesn't really grow out like the japanese straighter it kinda fades out your hair so you don't really have to worry about it looking crazy when it grows out. Also beware that there is formaldehyde in it. So which ever treatment you do end up getting make sure that there is a very little amount in the product. I would recommend getting a free consultation preferably by your current hair dresser just because they will give you an honest opinion and know your hair . It suppose to last form 3-6 months depends on how good you take care of it. Your suppose to use sulfate free shampoos so the product doesn't come out of your hair. Some cheap ones that I got that i really liked was Organics shampoo and conditioner. They are about 6 dollars each and you can buy them at any ulta. If you don't mind spending money then pureology is about 26.00 and can also be purchased form ulta. The treatment cost from $300-600 dollars depending where you get it done and your hair length. I got my done at red door spa. The girl was amazing and she had got it done her self so I had seen the results on her. You can get it done on dyed hair but just let them know so they can turn down the heat on the iron. Make sure you do your research before you go because many people at these salons want to make you get it and they kind of force you into but make sure your ready. I had set up an appointment to get it done at another salon a few months before I got it done and I wasn't sure about it because I felt that my hair dresser was just trying to sell it to me and I had mixed reviews on the product so I cancelled it. I started to go to a new hair dresser who was very honest and i told her i was thinking about it and she gave me all the info and her honest opinion so I did it. Overall I loved it but I am not sure if I will get it again just because of the price. It cut my blow drying time in half. Good Luck !Brazilian Hair Straightening... Pro's / Con's and Question.?
Yeah when it starts to grow out that curly hair will start to grow again, just like dying your hair you will have curly roots. Also, if you ever want your hair to be curly (like you change your mind about it) your curly hair will never be the same because it will permanently damage how curly it is, so then you'll have that to worry about.
The biggest con: It can LITERALLY kill you. Formeldhyde is a ingrediant in it, which is dangerous to your health, especially if you aren't in a well venilated area with a mask. Hair grows out, But roots normally are straight, So it wouldn't look too odd till it got down a little ways, which by then, It may have already started to g back to normal. And she's right. Not all chemicals can do what you want and expect from them.
This is a great pros and cons article about Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatments:

    http://www.hairstyle-blog.com/brazilian-鈥?/a>

    It goes over almost everything!
is brazilian hair striahgtening like perming ?

    if so.

it would work on all hair type.

it makes it straighter and smoother.

but the con is that it will damage your hair ,

after your hair turns back to normal , it can possibly look even frizzier .

hope this helps! What is Brazilian hair straightening?
Girls with unruly curls, rejoice: a new straightening system from Brazil is arriving in stateside salons, ready to tame even the worst-behaved manes. The process, called “escova progressiva” (progressive blowdry) heat-seals the hair cuticle with keratin, a protein similar to those naturally occurring in human hair. “Everybody has been amazed at the results,” said Mark Garrison, whose New York salon has been offering the treatment for about a month. “It's topical, so it's not a chemical alteration to the hair. And it really wipes out the frizz.” Unlike Japanese thermal straightening, which Garrison said is basically a perm in reverse, the Brazilian keratin system causes minimal damage to the hair. Applications cost between $200 and $600, and last anywhere from two to four months, depending on the hair type. Visit braziliankeratin.com to find out more about the treatment and locate a salon.

Not sure if the Brazilian straightening is as permanent as the Japanese. From what I read it's between a relaxer and a straightener.

Which would you choose?Japanese vs. Brazilian Hair Straightening. Which one?
    Hey,

I have brown dry hair and I have permed it four times before, but the perming caused me a lot of hair loss, so I have been doing the Brazilian Keratin (My hairdresser uses a Brazilian brand called: ';Maxi';, it is a white bottle) It is really great, but because my hair conditions are not that good, I still have to straighten it at home using the babyliss and the hair-dryer, but it makes life much more easier, and sometimes I get really stuck during my weekdays at work, this is why it is big life-saver. If you have good, normal hair and you ';keratin'; it, it will be fabulous. I recommend keratin for everyone because it is really good and makes your hair very shiny and healthy. It does not cause hair loss to me at all. You can also take a multivitamin every day along with the keratin, and your hair will be healthy. I highly recommend Brazilian Keratin, ask for the ';MAXI'; brand.

Just had the brazilian hair straightening done...a few questions:?

I had it done yesterday, and it is board straight. I took my dog for a walk, (it is super-humid outside) and iIt started to frizz just a little. Not as much as it normally would, but it still started to frizz. Is this normal? I used the flat-iron on it as soon as I got in, but I'm worried now that it isn't taking. My hair wasn't super-curly, just frizzy and a mess. Thanks for any advice/tips!!Just had the brazilian hair straightening done...a few questions:?
yes. people who have stick straight hair naturally get frizzy hair when it's super humid outside and their hair is over dried.

you've chemically treated your hair and it's now over dried. talk to your stylist about how to keep your hair moisturized w/o weakening your permanent.

No You could just use a ceramic flat iron or another choice. Brazillian hair straitenting has keratin (which is good) but it also has formaldehyde (a hazardous cancer-causing chemical).

My hair is very nappy and kinky and goes to my mid-back. If the flat iron and hot comb works for me then it will work for anyone. And if you don't want home treatments don't be hesitant to go to an African-American salon. They are experts on straightening.

    Japanese or Brazilian hair Straightening?

What is the difference between the two?

Which one is worse for your hair? I heard Japanese is horrible because they use honey and all your hair falls out.

    Which one costs more?

does your natural hair return after brazillian hair straightening? does it get really damaged?Japanese or Brazilian hair Straightening?
My sister got a Japanese hair Straightening and her hair is perfectly fine, but I have never heard of Brazilian hair Straightening. Sorry. But my sister's hair is really straight and shiny now.

I had it done a few days ago by a friend who works in an upscale salon. My hair looks FABULOUS!! Really. I am mixed with puerto rican and black so I had some kinky curls. Now my hair looks like Kim Kardashians. It is bouncy and shiny. Very nice. I do have pics also. OOOH and no frizz, thank God!

    brazilian straightening contain keratin

Brazilian Keratin Hair Straightening is a revolutionary treatment is an intense treatment that softens, smoothens, and most important gives you straight hair.

It does not use any strong chemicals to open and close the hair cuticle in an effort to straighten it, breaking the bones of the hair shaft. Keratin is a natural substance, which comprises approximately 88% of your hair. It penetrates the hair repairing internal damage and coats the hair preventing further damage.

i dont think that doing that would damage your hair because i am brazilian and know lots about hair....you should do it if you want nice hair =))))

hope i helpedHas any 1 ever done the Brazilian Hair Straightening?
I have straightened my hair with chemicals both by myself and professionally. It ruins your hair completely it turns it into a texture that feels like a horses tail, like straw. You have to take really good care of it, after you do a process like that. i don't think its that worth it, depending on what you buy or where you go, it works to an existent, and then I was using my hair straightener again in no time, it lasts maybe 3 weeks if your lucky, I just don't think the damage is worth it.

Where can I find a salon in Pittsburgh, pa that does Brazilian hair straightening?

Hey, definitely go to Capristo Salon in Shadyside and mention Google when you book an appointment. You'll save $50 off their regular price of $300.Where can I find a salon in Pittsburgh, pa that does Brazilian hair straightening?
Capristo (on Ellsworth St.) in Shadyside is also the only one I know of who is actually licensed to do Brazilian hair straightening. From what I heard, this is hard to find in the Pgh. area, but the results are supposed to be well worth it. Just make sure they use a formaldehyde-free formula. It is supposed to be the best.

To Christopher M.: Thanks for the $50-off tip! I called to confirm, and they are still honoring it.

Difference between Japanese hair straightener and Brazilian hair straightening?

Brazilian Hair Straightening involves encasing keratin on your hair with face traces of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen that can increase the risk of cancer. Japanese Hair Straightening does well at breaking down the protein bonds in your hair, thus smoothing out frizz and waves or curls. Since the Brazilian method only coats the hair with a keratin layer, the effect does not last as long compared to the Japanese method. Consult a beautician and research a little more before deciding on which method to use. Personally, I would prefer the Japanese method: less risk, longer results.Difference between Japanese hair straightener and Brazilian hair straightening?
What is unique about the Nanokeratin System treatment, how is it different than other hair repair systems?

The Nanokeratin based treatment is a revolutionary hair repair system.

The system utilizes nano-molecular keratin, whose particles are so miniscule that millions of them can be gathered onto a pin head! The Nanokeratin particles are deposited and locked deep within the damaged hair, sealing it naturally, to repair hair and restore it to health.

Other types of treatment utilize molecules that are so large that they are unable to penetrate the strands of hair. But the miniscule Nanokeratin molecules penetrate deep within each strand, ensuring the treatment鈥檚 long lasting results.

Can Brazilian Hair Straightening be used on already relaxed hair?

Can Brazilian Hair Straightening be used on already relaxed hair? I heard you cant with Japanese Hair Straightening but I dont know about the Brazilian Hair Straightening.ThxCan Brazilian Hair Straightening be used on already relaxed hair?
Yep it can!It can be used over Japanese Hair Straightening, highlights, after coloring and can be applied on chemically treated hair or relaxed hair

I want to know more about Japanese/ Brazilian hair straightening. Can anyone fill me in?

I have researched both a bit, but I am nervous because I am growing my hair out. (It is short now, I want it longer.) I also have highlights, and I know that may affect the straightening.I want to know more about Japanese/ Brazilian hair straightening. Can anyone fill me in?
With color-treated hair, you should probably rule out Japanese straightening. Japanese straightening permanently straightens the treated hair, however touch-ups are needed for new growth.

Brazilian straightening (also called keratin treatment) is probably the option you'll want to consider, given your hair is color-treated. There are many different brands of keratin treatment. The key things you'll want to consider is whether the treatment is formadehyde-free and whether it's a one-day or 4-day process.

I had the Brazilian Blowout (a brand of keratin treatment) done this summer and I've been delighted with the results. It took approximately 90 minutes to do the process and my hair is definitely straighter than it used to be. It's a lot more manageable and I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. To maintain it, I've gone back every month and a half or so.

Whats the difference between relaxers,Japanese, and Brazilian hair straightening?

    i have a weavy/curly /frizzy hair, and i want it straight.

i usually straight it up with hot iron, but it takes too much time and it curls back when the humiduty is high or when it rains.

so i was thinking of getting my hair permanently straight, but i dont know which method is better.

    relaxers? Japanese? Brazilian straightening?

which ones better, less demeging and long lasting??Whats the difference between relaxers,Japanese, and Brazilian hair straightening?
Well I am black and spanish so I have super curly hair. I used to use relaxers for years, they just burn the outside shaft of your hair. So it doesn't get straight, it just gets kinda dead and limp so its easier to syle. But relaxers are really for black womans hair.

Brazilian hair straightening kind of works. It never straightened my hair but it made it about 30% easier to straighten. I paid only $200 so I didn't complain. I actually hated the way it made my hair look because it didn't do much. I guess because my hair was too curly to begin with. I decided to wear my hair curly again and my curls looked stiff, ugly and just akward. So then I decided to just decativate it with sodium chloride shampoo (when you have brazilizn straightening you can't use sodium chloride shampoo which is like every shampoo at the pharmacy except some childrens shampoos and herbal African Amercian shampoos). It doesn't really ever completly wash out or deactivate. But now my hair is alot softer and easier to manage. So I recommend the Brazilian straightening for woman with super super curly hair that are looking to soften it. It also does work well on woman with straight hair that just have frizz problems or a mild curl. My stylist used it all the time and plus she bleached her hair blond so her hair was pin straight. The good thing about the Brazilian is that you can dye your hair after wards but you can't with the Japanese hair staightening.

Now my girl friend uses the Japanese straightening system. She is Indian with really thick black hair. But because of the Japanese straightening she just blow dries her hair for 10 minutes and her hair is straight as a bone. I personally like the look of the Japanese straightening but she always complained about getting it done because of up keep.

Getting the Japanese straightening is like a big commitment because you can't dye your hair before or after gettting it done (I dont know what will happen but my girlfriend never dyed her hair it was untouched by any chemicals before she got the Japanese system). Also if you decide you don't like it anymore you have to wait until all your hair grows back in. However with the Brazilian straightening you can just ';deactivate'; with regular pharmacy store shampoo.

The bad thing about the Brazilian straigtening is that it uses formaldhyde (the stuff the use to preserve dead bodies) unless you can find the chocolate brand that doesn't use formaldyde. Before I decided to deactivate my Brazilian I had to sleep with my hair tied up because my boyfriend was allergic to the formaldhyde and broke out in skin hives. Its not cool when you are trying to make kissy face with your boyfriend and he screams at you to tye up your hair before coming within 2 feet of him. But thats the reality of beauty lol. If I where you I would try and search for a Brazilian without formaldyhde ---the ';Brazilian Chocolate System';--- but it's damn near impossible to find (and who knows stylists lie all the time). But I personally like the look of the Japanese straightening better because the hair looks smoother.

Anyway I gave up on all the systems because my hair will never be straightened by just one product alone its way too curly. But good luck on your search.Whats the difference between relaxers,Japanese, and Brazilian hair straightening?
Just so you know you can totally color your hair with Japanese hair straightening and hi-lite etc. The only thing is you can't color 10 days before or 10 days after so that either is not fresh and has time to set. and by the way if you think a hairstylist is lying to you don't go the him or her.

dont do a relaxer, I've heard about alot of people whos hair falls out after a couple times.

Japanese or other known as thermal hair straightening, its really good, and you only have to go in for touch ups after your hair grows out some.....and it conditions your hair. so it ends up that your hair gets a deep conditioning and a straightening job, but its VERY costly

idk. 'bout the brazilian striaghtening. srry.

Brazilian hair straightening over japanese hair straightening on a same day is it good for the hair?
no.. that is unnecessary. get the japanese hair straigtening, b/c it lasts longer (9 months to a year) and is about the same price as brazilian hair straigtening (which lasts about 4 months). however, i did read that brazilian hair straigtening believe it or not works best on color treated hair. consult your stylist about color treating your hair when you have japanese hair straigtening.

Has anyone tried it? How well did it work and how long did it last?

    any personal reviews?Brazilian Hair Straightening?
I read up on it and have watched videos of the procedure and it's really dangerous. you can't breathe in the fumes because it contains formaldehyde which is embalming fluid...which is used to preserve dead bodies. It is so strong that you have to do it in a highly ventilated area and use a fan as well because the fumes are deadly. I saw one video where the lady putting it on actually wore a mask over her face. But they say their hair feels great afterwards....don't know if you should take the risk.Brazilian Hair Straightening?
I've never heard of a Brazilian hair straightening, but I have had a Japanese hair straightening or Japanese Perm as some call it. It lasts for about a year, and it makes hair soft.

    GOOD LUCK!
